Description

The "Hood Saver" is the ultimate solution for protecting and reinforcing the hoods of John Deere compact tractors. Specifically engineered to fit 1, 2, 3, and 4-series models, this innovative product addresses the common problem of hood breakage and cracking caused by towing tractors forward on trailers or natural vibrations during operation.

By strengthening the hood latch area, the Hood Saver not only stops existing cracks from spreading but also prevents further damage, extending the life of your tractor hood. Made with durable, high-quality materials, it ensures a perfect fit and reliable performance. Easy to install and built to last, the Hood Saver is an essential upgrade for farmers, landscapers, and tractor owners who want to keep their equipment in top condition and avoid costly repairs.

The Hood Saver replaces the factory metal panel clips that the hood striker bolts into. These clips are attached to thin plastic panels, which concentrate all the pulling and vibration forces into a very small area. Over time, this causes cracks and breakage in the hood around the latch.

How the Hood Saver works:

  1. Replaces the stock clips:
The Hood Saver installs in place of the factory clips.

  2. Embedded metal nut:
The striker bolts into the reinforced nut built into the Hood Saver instead of threading into the panel nut attached to the thin plastic, creating a strong, load-bearing connection.

  3. Redistributes the load:
The Hood Saver spreads the force over a larger, reinforced surface area, instead of focusing it on a tiny piece of plastic. This prevents the stress that causes cracking.

  4. Protects and extends hood life:
Existing cracks are stopped from spreading, and new damage is prevented, while the hood continues to open, close, and latch normally.

Epoxy, a homemade bracket, or this?

The common DIY repairs (structural epoxy with fender washers, or a fabricated aluminum bracket) are all reaching for the same thing the Hood Saver does in one part: get the striker off brittle plastic and onto metal that spreads the load. Epoxy alone tends to re-crack within a season because the area keeps flexing. The Hood Saver bolts the factory striker into an embedded metal nut backed by a wide reinforced footprint, so it repairs and reinforces in one step with no fabrication. See the full epoxy vs bracket vs new hood comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Hood Saver fit my tractor?

The Hood Saver fits a wide range of John Deere compact tractors across the 1, 2, 3, and 4-series. For all 1-Series (1023E, 1025R, 1026R), it fits 2018 and newer builds, serial number 162255 and up, and is untested on 2017 and older. Check the Tall and Short fitment lists on this page and pick the version that matches your hood. If you do not see your model or are unsure, send us a photo and your model year and we will confirm.

Does it fit a 2017 or older 1-Series (1023E, 1025R, 1026R)?

John Deere changed the 1-Series hood mid-2018. The Hood Saver fits 2018 and newer 1-Series builds, serial number 162255 and up. We have not tested it on 2017 and older 1-Series, so we do not recommend it there yet. Send us the last 6 digits of your serial number and we will confirm before you order.

Is the Hood Saver preventive or a repair?

Both. Install it on a sound hood to keep the latch mount from cracking, or use it to repair and strengthen a mount that has already cracked or broken.

My hood latch mount is cracked. Will the Hood Saver fix it?

Yes. The Hood Saver repairs and reinforces the latch mount. To be clear about what fails here: it is the hood latch mount that cracks or breaks, not the hood itself splitting.

My hood latch broke completely off. Will the Hood Saver still work?

In most cases, yes. As long as the uprights are still mostly there, the Hood Saver restores the latch mount even after the latch has broken off completely. If the uprights are gone, send us a photo and we will tell you whether it will work for your situation.

Do I need to drill anything to install it?

No. The install uses the existing latch mounting area and a bonding adhesive. Most owners finish in 30 to 60 minutes with basic hand tools.

Will the Hood Saver be visible from outside?

It is installed on low-visibility surfaces around the latch area. From the outside, the hood looks stock.

Is the Hood Saver an OEM John Deere part?

No. It is an aftermarket part designed and made by 3D Fusion Labs. It is not associated with Deere and Company, and installing it does not modify any warrantied component.

1 review for Hood Saver for John Deere

  1. kPs (verified owner)

I ordered three Hood Savers as Christmas gifts, to use as cheap insurance. Two of the them did not FIT AS John Deere had changed the latch design on the newer compact tractors. I contacted Travis at 3D Fusion Labs. Travis offered to work thru the holidays to make it right, even though the issue was not their fault. I sent Travis rudimentary measurements and the FIRST proto type FIT perfectly. Travis did all this work for free. What a great company.
